You do not need a shelf full of products to start detailing your car properly. A small set of the right tools covers most routine cleaning jobs.
Exterior basics
- Two wash buckets or a safe rinsing method
- Car shampoo designed for paintwork
- Soft wash mitt
- Dedicated wheel brush
- Drying towel
Interior basics
- Soft detailing brushes
- Microfibre cloths
- Vacuum
- Interior-safe cleaner
Avoid cross-contamination
Do not use the same cloth or brush on wheels and paint. Brake dust and grit can scratch delicate surfaces.
Work from cleanest to dirtiest
Inside the car, start high and work down. Outside, pre-rinse heavy dirt and keep wheel tools separate from bodywork tools.
More products are not always better
Choose tools based on what your car actually needs. Good technique and clean equipment matter more than having a large product collection.
